CLASSROOM NEWS
We have a number of activities happening before the end of October. We've been working on Halloween art, writing, and science activities over the past week and this will continue until after Halloween. Below are important dates to note:
OCT. 26- Hot Lunch
OCT. 30- Goldstream Classroom Visit on bats
OCT.31- AM- Costume Parade
- Pumpkin judging- we have been asked to vote on our favourite pumpkins carved by intermediates
PM- Board games in the afternoon. Students are welcome to bring in a favourite board game to play with friends.
Parent Readers- If you are interested in volunteering your time as a parent reader please let me know. This would involve listening to 3 or 4 students read in one on one format (approximately 25 minutes total). This is usually scheduled at the start of the day but I can be flexible depending on what works best for parent volunteers.
Thank you to Sarah Iles for taking on the Scholastic Book orders. I feel extremely fortunate for Sarah's help this year.
Student of the Week- Please see the schedule below for your child's week. Adjustments can easily be made so let me know if your child's week falls on a family vacation, etc. We are looking forward to our first presentation tomorrow!
Happy Halloween!

HOORAY FOR DPA Div. 9 Display
The final result of our art display for daily physical activity is quite stunning. Students had to show movement in their art through their pose, the lines they added to their silhouette, and by using paint to complete their creation. They had to choose between a cool or warm colour palette to finish off their piece. Our work is in the upstairs hallway down the hall from our classroom. Come upstairs and check it out- we've had lots of compliments so far!

Poet's Corner- Fall Sense Poems
Fall is pumpkins ripening in pumpkin patches.
It sounds like the wind is here. Hooray. Hooray!
It tastes like maple syrup and apple pie.
It smells like burning leaves in bonfires.
It looks like people decorating their houses with spiders.
It makes you feel happy and like you could shout Hooray!
By Keira
Fall is hopping in piles of leaves.
It sounds like crackling leaves falling from trees.
It tastes like Halloween candy.
It smells like warm chocolatey hot chocolate.
It looks like squirrels stealing food from the bird feeder.
It makes you feel warm, relaxing by the fire.
By Ali
Fall is leaves changing colours.
It sounds like leaves blowing.
It tastes like burning muffins.
It smells like steaming chicken soup.
It looks like carved pumpkins.
It makes you feel warm and cozy.
By James
Fall is leaves fluttering to the ground.
It sounds like the flapping of birds wings.
It tastes like pumpkin pie.
It smells like apple cider.
It looks like shiny spider webs.
It makes you feel cozy.

Glass Jars Needed
Please send in your glass jars before they are recycled. We will be creating pumpkin lanterns for Halloween! Old spagetti, peanut butter, and jam jars will work very well for this activity.

SD #62 Numeracy Support Site
www.numeracysd62.com
Our district's numeracy website has useful math links for K to 6. I have found www.abcya.com to be the most popular with children. They can play fun games while practicing basic math skills and concepts.

HOORAY FOR DPA (Daily Physical Activity)!
To begin their art project, students traced one another in movement. Next, they added different types of line to their shape. Finally, they had to choose between a warm or cool color palette and paint their shape. The results were quite dramatic for our "Hooray for DPA" school display. Check them out down the hall from our classroom.
